3 Tips to Preventing Injury

July 14th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Fitness, Yoga

I love doing anything athletic!  I love running around and getting sweaty!  However, injury can put a damper on what I love to do.  For any athlete, preventing injury is a high priority.  Injury can take you out for weeks even months at a time.  However, there are things you can do in order to prevent injury.  These are some things that I’ve done, and I know they work.

Injury is generally caused by lack of proper stretching, proper diet, and proper rest.  The keys to preventing injury is to stretch properly, eat right, and get adequate rest for your muscles.

The best exercise, and the one I use to avoid injury is yoga.  Yoga is a great complement to any workout, or to do before an athletic event such as football or basketball.  Yoga loosens the muscles, reduces stress, and strengthens key muscle groups.  These things are key to preventing injury.  I highly recommend it in order to prevent injury.  One program that I highly recommend, and one that has been designed with the athlete in mind, is Runner’s Yoga.  Check it out here:  http://www.squidoo.com/yoga-routines-for-runners

Proper diet can also help to prevent injury.  Coke and Mcdonalds tend to wear you down, and definitely aren’t good for the heart.  However, good foods can help your body “run” better.

Proper rest is also very important.  The average person needs at least 8 hours of sleep.  This allows your body to heal, and get prepared for the next day.

All of these things are very important.  I do highly recommend yoga to any athlete as it holds many benefits to both our physical and mental well-being.  As far as proper diet is concerned, I’ve started going to allrecipes.com to get healthy recipes.  If you do these things, you will prevent injury.  Hopefully this helped answer any questions about preventing injury.
